A member of Magnum photos since 1986, Steve McCurry launched his career as a photojournalist when, disguised in native garb, he crossed the Pakistan border into Afghanistan over twenty years ago. His remarkable coverage won him the Robert Capa Gold Medal, which is presented to photographers who exhibit exceptional courage and enterprise. His awards also include the National Press Photographer's Association's Magazine Photographer of the Year, the Olivier Rebbot Memorial Award (awarded twice) and won four first prizes in the same year at the World Press Photo Contest.

This autumn, Phaidon Press will publish a specially bound large format limited edition book featuring 200 colour photographs taken not only in Southeast Asia but also Africa and Europe: Steve McCurry: The Iconic Photographs (Limited Edition). The images range from arresting portraits of children, pilgrims and farmers, to understated scenes of daily life as McCurry captures candid images of the acts of fishing, playing, working and praying; from the dramatic beauty of the natural surroundings captured in his landscapes to the stunning craftsmanship of ancient temples. Each copy is signed and numbered by the photographer, and accompanied by a signed and numbered limited edition print exclusively created by McCurry for this book. McCurry is one of the most admired and well-represented photojournalists working today, and this special limited edition will be sought after by collectors of his work as will tickets for his appearance at The National Portrait Gallery.
